After enjoying a successful career as a professional sailor and member of the US Sailing Team, Derick returned to Seattle to attend law school at Seattle University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Prior to graduation, Derick spent several years working for Vranizan & Associates, assisting Michael Vranizan in Trust administration and distributing real and personal property. In 2022, Derick and Erika Vranizan formed Vranizan Group to provide a better form of estate planning and administrative services to the greater Seattle community.

As part of his responsibilities at Vranizan Group, Derick is involved in estate management, trust administration, and the distribution and sale of trust and estate assets including real and personal property. When he is not working, Derick still enjoys sailing, although that activity is now usually a family affair.
